Big Brother represents government interference in people's everyday lives. I think if you want to stay off the government's radar it is rather easy. Don't push large amounts of drugs through the country and don't attempt to overthrow the government. Otherwise they pretty much leave you alone. All the phone tapping happens to people of interest. If you have nothing to hide who really cares? I doubt they stay tuned in to listen to who hooked up with who.
I'm having a really hard time getting into 1984. George Orwell is supposed to be a great author but so far I'm not impressed, I thought Animal Farm was a much better novel. However I've only read part one so hopefully it picks up. I cannot imagine living in that society. The idea of someone tapping into my thoughts is so intrusive it makes me sick. None of us would last long, our generation is the most controversial yet. We would have been the first to be vaporized.
I completely agree with you when you said "All the phone tapping happens to people of interest. If you have nothing to hide who cares?" That's so true. Sure they do track suspicious purchases that you make sometimes, but other than that I feel that they frankly don't care. I noticed many people walk on edge and think that people are constantly tapping there phones. Guilty conscious much? As long as you pay your taxes and stay away from a gang with a love for shooting up gas stations then you have nothing to fear.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also think that the novel is slow. It seems to repeat itself over and over but I think that's just to show how hos days never change. But I feel like it spent 100 pages saying the same few ideas. I've read it before and it doesn't seem to get much better, but I'm hoping now that I'm not 14 reading it that I might find something of interest.
Even though I put the government interferes with our privacy, I guess I didn't really mean like that. I just meant they could access your private information with the click of a button if they wanted to. I understand what both of you mean though, they dont care what you did last night and who is in your new relationship obviously.
ReplyDeleteI also think the book is very hard to get into as well, but again im only on part one as well. I just feel like Orwell goes into great detail, which is good at times, however overwhelming at others. I hope the book picks up and we understand what big brother is trying to instill in this society
I agree I have had trouble getting into the novel and really understanding the meaning of it. I think the relation to our world today is our technology. With technology there really is no privacy. People can acess almost anything about anyone via the internet.
